Northwood Banks & Co is delighted to announce that Chief Legal Officer, Helen Claydon, has been nominated as Female Trailblazer of the Year at the 2024 Modern Law Awards. This award recognises those who have taken the lead in opening the industry to a more diverse community. This includes actively advocating for minority groups, mentoring aspiring professionals, innovation in practice, and showing inspiring leadership.
Helen, who was voted by her peers ‘Industry Champion’ at the British Wills & Probate Awards in 2023, has been selected by the judges as an ideal candidate for the Female Trailblazer award. She takes a special interest in mentoring young female legal professionals, as well as those from minority backgrounds, helping them achieve excellence. Her work with HMRC and the Law Commission during the development of the Trust Registration Scheme made her become an inspiration to many.
“When I started my journey in the legal profession, I was a single parent juggling work with family.” said Helen, “I believe this helped shape my desire to make the industry as open as possible. The services on offer should be available and accessible to everyone, and the sector will continue to benefit from having as diverse a workforce as possible.”
Helen’s drive in this area has not only seen a unique offering to university students studying law and a dedicated apprenticeship programme, but also the sponsorship of four young professionals through their legal certification. She has also mentored two young women in achieving well deserved promotions of the past year. Everyone at Northwood Banks & Co, and throughout the HAIG Legal Group, wish her the very best of luck at the awards night in March.
